According to a foreign news agency on 5 December, India's Minister of Mines, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, recently said that despite the limited resources available for lithium and other key minerals, India is actively seeking to secure overseas lithium reserves to ensure future supply.

Speaking at a press conference, Joshi emphasised India's strategic ambitions in the key minerals sector. He noted that the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has undertaken 125 exploration projects this year, which is the highest ever. The growth in this number underscores the importance the Indian government attaches to the mineral sector, especially in the backdrop of growing global demand for lithium and other key minerals.

Joshi said the government is not only looking for and developing new lithium deposits, but is also stepping up efforts to explore 18 other key mineral blocks. These blocks may contain other valuable minerals that are important for India's future economic development and strategic position.
